Panathenaic Procession

Frieze
from Parthenon
The
above friezes are considered by some scholars to be the work of
Phidias, the
greatest sculptor of ancient Greece. His statue of Zeus in the
temple of Olympia
was considered one of the seven wonders of the world. Phidias
immortalized his
beloved Pantarkes by carving the young man's likeness at the base of
the deity.
