Josephine Baker fled to France finding freedom
from bigotry. Parisian audiences, unconcerned
by her race or bisexuality, were delighted with
the entertainer's talent.
Serving France in the Resistance during World War II, she received her
adopted homeland's most distinguished award, the 'Legion of Honor.'
